The thin geek line: After telling the riveting story of how a bunch of self-organizing geeks employed by the private sector discovered and patched a potentially catastrophic bug with the internet’s DNS, MIT Technology Review concludes that “the story points to the troubling absence of any process for identifying and fixing critical flaws in the Internet. Because the Internet is so decentralized, there simply isn’t a specific person or organization in charge of solving its problems.” Wow. Nevertheless worth the read for the inspiring story.

NYT: Blogging at a Snail’s Pace: Two years ago, if a writer wanted to share a link or a video with friends or tell them about an upcoming event, he or she would post the information on a blog. Now it’s much faster to type 140 characters in a Twitter update (also known as a tweet), share pictures on Flickr, or use the news feed on Facebook. By comparison, a traditional blogging program like WordPress can feel downright glacial.

Minnesota Public Radio has posted a bunch of the ballots being challenged by the Coleman and Franken campaigns. Visitors to the site are asked to vote on how they would rule on each ballot. In most cases I think voter intent is pretty discernible, but its tempting to say that they should all be rejected given that the voters couldn’t manage such a simple task.
